Justine Florence Saunders

Timeline

  • On 20th of  Feb. 1953 she was born in Queensland .

  • 1974 she had became a professional actress .

  • 1976 Saunders first came to prominence in number 96 .

  • 1981 Miniseries enable Aborignal woman to bring their stories to a national audience .

  • 1987 she was awarded for assistance she gave in the establishment of black theatre and setting up the Aboriginal national theatre trust .

  • 1991 she was awarded an order of Australian Medal for performing arts and to the national Aboriginal theatre .

  • 2000 Saunders gained wider national prominence .

  • 2004 Her last role was alongside Barry Otto .

  • On 15 April 2007 she died  from the cancer .

Nelson Mandela

Achievements :
  • Inspite of the fact that Mandela confronted many political problems he was able to finish his degree and qualified as a lawyer .
  • In 1952 Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa .
  • In 1944Mandela helped found the ANC Youth League, whose Programme of Action was adopted by the ANC in 1949 .
  • Mandela was instrumental in pushing the ANC in to more direct action such as the 1952 Defiance Campaign and later acts of sabotage .
  • On 10th of May 1994 Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa until 1999 .
  • Nelson Mandela , associated with many educational programmes and initiatives such as Make Poverty History Campaign  .
  • In 1993 Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with F.W.De Klerk .

TIMELINE  OF NELSON  MANDELA   :

  1. On 18 July 1918 Mandela was born at Qunu, near Umata .
  2. 1944 he helped found the ANC Youth League  ,whose programme of Action was adopted by theANC in 1949 .
  3. 1950s Mandela had to resign from the ANC  and work underground, because the S.A statehad bacome increasingly repressive making it more difficult for the ANC to operate .
  4. 1950s Mandela and several others were charged with treason .
  5.  1952  Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa .
  6. 1960 the Sharpeville massacre of 63 black South Africans changed the whole political climate .
  7. 1962Mandela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison .
  8. 1990 Mandela has been realised from prison .
  9. 1993Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with F.W.De Klerk .
  10. On 10th of May 1994 Nelson Mandela was inaugurated  as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa .

Turning Points

  • When his father died Mandela and was groomed for becoming chief of his local tribe .However Mandela would never be able to make this commitment .

  • whilst at university Nelson Mandela became increasingly aware of the unjust nature of South African Society ,and the little opprtunities either Economic or political especialy for the Black South Africans . Much to the disappointment of his family ,Mandela became involved in politics.

  •   Along with his good friend and comrad Oliver Tambo was expelled from Fort Hare for organising a student strike.

  • By the late 1950s Mandela had to resign from the ANC and work underground so there was an extermely lengthly Treason Trial in which Mandela and several others were charged with treason .

  • In 1960 the sharpeville massacre of 63 black South Africans changed the whole political climate. The government banned the ANC. This led Mandela to advocate armed struggle through the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) .

  • By 1962 MAndela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison  .

  • In 1990 Mandela releasedand it was an emotional moment watched by millions around the globe .

  • AS president,Mandela  presided over the transition from minority rule and apartheid .His advocacy of reconciliation led to international acclaim and importantly the trust of the White African population .

  • Mandela  lost his eldest son who suffered from HIV epidemic  . So he worked hard to campaign on this issue .

  • After his retiring he continued to be an international figure of great statue , he was one of the few  polititicians who have gone beyond apolitical role  .

Fred Hollows - Time line

1929 Fred Hollows born in New Zealand                                                                                                  1960 Fred got a job in Australia .                                                                                                              1965 He was head of the Eye Department at a Sydney hospital .                                                              1970 He helped launch a national program to attack eye disease in aboriginal Australians . 
 1980 He was travelling all over the world to help set up eye health programs in developing countries  1989 He Hollows knew he would not see all his ideas happen .
1993 He died at home surrounded by his friends,his wife Gabi and their five children .
